Anaiso

ABOUT US

'What is ANAISO?'

ANAISO (Analysis on Isolation) is a multimedia project exploring the
behavioral and emotional shifts of Filipino adolescents aged 18–24 during
the COVID-19 pandemic. It examines how prolonged isolation shaped daily
habits, media use, and social behavior, and compares these patterns
to the Hikikomori concept, highlighting culturally specific responses.

MISSION

To combine research and storytelling to highlight Filipino youth experiences during the pandemic, and spark conversations on mental health, culture, and post-isolation reintegration.

VISION

A community that understands and supports the emotional realities of young people recovering from prolonged isolation.

PROJECT STORY

With schools closed and routines disrupted, adolescents adapted using digital media, structured routines, and selective withdrawal. The project applies two theories: Uses and Gratifications Theory (UGT) explains why youth turned to media for emotional and social needs. Media System Dependency Theory (MSD) explains reliance on media for structure, identity, and social connection during uncertain times.
